"Shama" is a beautiful example of the charismatic Maestoso line, with his noble face, huge dark eyes, and sweet as a puppy (although slightly silly, at times) personality. Visitors are always awestruck by his drop-dead gorgeous looks. Spectacular, classical conformation with arching neck, smooth topline, and elegant head. Everything is harmonious and beautiful about him.
His classical-type and heritage are contrasted with his modern-movement. His slow, cadenced, and floating trot is only overshadowed by his naturally uphill and brilliant canter. The judges always remark on his wonderful gaits. He has been enjoying a prolific and successful competition career as he has moved up through the levels, winning many championships and awards from Training Level through FEI. His "Sporthorse-in-Hand" accomplishments include Reserve Champion Stallion and qualification for DSHBA Championships. We knew it was good fortune when, in his first season of showing (2004), and one of his first shows, less than one year under saddle, he scored an 81.153% at Training Level with rider, Shana Ritter. The following year (2005) he was the USDF All-Breeds Champion at First Level, and two years later (2007) was USDF All-Breeds Champion at 3rd Level. The following year (2008) he made his graceful debut into the FEI showring, scoring a 62.75% at Prix St. George.
In addition to his under-saddle training, "Shama" has the unique advantage that he has extensive training and exhibition experience at the longrein. His amicable temperament and naturally uphill movement made him an excellent candidate for this kind of work. Our older stallion, Tony, who has always been our longrein star, is now 20 years old, so we decided to bring along one of the younger stallions for our future longrein star. "Shama" was the natural choice, and he took to the work very easily and was able to perform in his first exhibition shortly after introduction to the longrein. In 2008, he performed the Solo Longrein Kur during our Open House Performance.
He is schooling Piaffe in-hand and under saddle, and shows amazing talent for the Airs Above the Ground. He is just beginning some elementary Passage steps.
He is trained to Intermediare I, and has successful competition experience through Prix St. George. Full canter pirouettes, changes through 2's (beginning 1's), and zig-zag halfpasses. He has an amazing work ethic and excellent temperament.
As a breeding stallion, "Shama" has much to offer for mare owners. In his breeding stallion evaluations, Dr. Jaromir Oulehla, retired Director of the Spanish Riding School and Piber Stud Farm, was extremely complimentary and remarked that "Shama" offers a unique genetic mix which would be attractive and beneficial for any U.S. breeder.
He has proven to be a very prepotent stallion. His offspring are replicas of their sire in their correct conformation, classical and elegant beauty, and friendly, easy temperaments. To date, only one of his foals has gone through the evaluation process. This is India, a 2006 mare who scored 82% as a two-year-old filly.
In the breeding shed, "Shama" is a gentle, kind, and observant stallion. For live cover, he is very careful and knows how to gently "sweet-talk" the mare before getting down to business. He is a joy to handle for breeding, because he remains very mindful of the handlers and can easily be backed off the mare at any time. He is also trained to be collected on the phantom. With preparation, his fresh, cooled semen can be shipped anywhere in the United States and has achieved successful pregnancy results both locally and shipped. He has also lived quite peacefully in a pasture situation with mares and has successfully bred several mares via this method. He has two foals due in 2009.
2009 Stud Fee: $1000.00 LFG - Fresh, cooled Semen Available. Live Cover or Pasture Breeding possible, if mare is suitable.
Season Ends November 15, 2009
